Nineteen Eighty-Four
I’ve just finished reading Nineteen Eighty-Four and it’s easily the most disturbing book I’ve ever read.
It’s taken me a couple of months to get through it as I found it quite a difficult read. I sped up towards the end, but in the earlier sections I had to take hings a little bit more slowly so that I could let the message sink in and understand the book in the context of the world I live in today.
At times I had to double take to make sure I was still reading a novel. Sometimes it felt like I was reading a newspaper or looking in the mirror. The terms Big Brother and 1984 are bandied around in such a manner these days that they’re now almost meaningless. The scary thing is almost everything in the book has already happened. It’s too late.
Like I said, I found it all deeply disturbing. If you haven’t read it I urge you to do so. It will put a lot of everyday things into an entirely new light. Just be aware that you might not like what you see.
